MAKE Magazine comes out to MakerGeeks.com to talk shop...
ABS, or (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) for the fancy pants among us... it's the work horse for most 3D printers out there right now - and why shouldn't it be; it's strong, cheap, easy to use and comes in many vivid colors. What makes MakerFilament ABS better than the others?? Well, I'm glad you asked... we do a few things very differently than others do when making our ABS 3D printer filament. For starters we take the time to dry our raw resin to negative 40f to insure that the resin will have zero moisture in it once you get it - this process can take from 4 to 10 hours (each batch) to accomplish and needs very expensive machinery and seems to be an overlooked step due to its cost and time. However, it's important to have perfectly dried resin before starting the extrusion process to make 3D printer filament or you'll find the dimensional tolerance isn't so good and the end product when 3D printed will have a high wrapping problem along with low-resolution do to voids in the filament.
The next thing we do here at Maker Geeks when we are making your ABS Maker Filament is extrude it directly to the end users spool... many will make up large batches on 100-200lb spools and then store these (un-sealed) in open warehouses until the time comes to make smaller spools with them. This is great for productivity however it can lead to some real issues with the freshness of the filament as well as dimensional tolerances over the entire "mega-spool" - Maker Filament ABS is fresh from the extruder to the 1kg spool, right into a vacuum sealer packed with a desiccant so you know that each spool is fresh. Actually, it's more than likely no more than 7 days old once you receive it in the mail; we turn our product over so fast due to the high demand that most batches are being sold in the same week we make them! Now that's fresh filament and that makes a difference!
So; lets talk about price.... all Maker Filament is only $24.55 for 1KG/ 2.2lbs - Think about that price for a second... some retailers charge you $49 for 1KG of their ABS or even $59 for 1LB of PETG and you know what... it's all the same stuff; matter of fact we manufacturer a lot of those same brands for them right here at MakerGeeks as that's a big part of our business, private labeling for other large US based 3D filament and 3D printer companies. So why pay more... cut out the middle man and the fancy packaging and go direct with Maker Geeks and the Maker Filament brand!
As you might know Maker Geeks.com is one, if not the only 3D Printer Retailer in the USA that also makes all it's own filament in house; so we have a lot of flexibility on pricing and the ability to still give you second to none quality (click here to see our process and read about what we are doing here in Springfield, MO) we also source everything from our color to our resin to our spools to even the vacuum seal bags all inside the USA so when we say it's Made in America it is... from top to bottom!
So what does all this mean to you... well for starters it means we care about our filament and take the time and the money needed to make sure it's RIGHT for you and all these "extra" steps show themselves off in the finished product; we see better colors, higher-resolution, less jamming and lower wrapping issues since the filament is made to Maker Filament specifications; give Maker Filament ABS a try today and see for yourself! Hey, if you don't like it... send it back and we'll give you a full refund!!

Maker Filament ABS has been and continues to be used daily here at MakerGeeks HQ for all our 3D printing plus we have a great network of large scale industrial users that order and print with 100's of KG of our filament each week so we are always getting nearly real-time feed back from them as well as our 1,000's of Makers like you! Think of Maker Filament more like YOUR Filament... it's your requests, feedback and input that shape the brand and help us to make the best 3D Printer Filament on the market today!

Maker Filament ABS works great with:

News from the Maker Desk
Happy Monday to you... hope you are doing great today; wanted to share something that was on my heart this morning about MakerGeeks and what’s going on and what the next steps are for us.

Almost 3 years ago we started selling 3D Printer filament(all of it from China) and over the next 2 years saw a booming business come out of those items; reselling filaments from China, Germany and the Netherlands. About a year and a half ago we started with a single extruder and a dream to start making 3D printer filament in bulk scale here on US soil… back then I thought that 1 extruder and me working part time would make more filament than I could sell in a life-time. Well, within just a few months we had bought another extrusion line and hired our first full time operator just to keep up with demand.

Now, surly we would have enough filament to last a life-time; NOPE… in just a few more months we added another extrusion line and lots and lots of overtime and weekends. Now we…
