Robot Track System Lawn Mower Build Pt: 5

Robo-Mower Update (LCD readouts)

Ah, finally... My new LCD screens came in and I have them mounted to show battery condition and later as more sensors come online I can add additional read outs - next up is adding a 5.8ghz FPV system for remote mowing and then it'll be on to robotic sensors to add some degree of automation into the mix.

But for now; it's just about done on the mechanical side. I also had a Holy Spirit Eureka moment today while staring at the machine... "Why not put the original mowers wheels back on to add stability!" - I gave it a try and headed out front of my shop to some overpass embankments and WHOA that idea made all the difference... Just perfect, very stable and helps keeping the mower deck level while moving over rough and steep terrain.

See what you think:

Till next time, get out and hack something!!! Have fun!!

  1. How did the remote control system come out? Is there anything you learned after the build you want to share?

There's a maker space that opened up near me, I'm thinking of taking this on as my first project. And learning to weld in the process. Should be fun!

Apologies if this comes through twice.

Robot Track System Lawn Mower Build Pt: 1

RoBO Lawn-Mower So, I work at our church on the grounds team and my job is to use a push mower on the VERY steep hills around the main building; I would say there is about 2 acres of this extreme hills that need to be mowed every week. Whew... it's pretty rough sometimes!! Of course my inner-geek always comes out while I'm mowing and I think of how I could make it easier... well, what about having a robot do this for me!!

But what sort of robot could manage these hills and do a GOOD JOB of cutting God's grass... hummm...

I have been doodleing and drawing for about 6 months on this and finally started building last week!!

Here we go...

I had a small push mower that I had just bought so I was going to use that for my platform and started researching what sort of motors are best for robots and battle robots; and found that wheelchair motors are awesome work horses.

I found some on eBay for the Jazzy Pride 1 wheelchair, perfect!! I also found …
